The investment has paid off in measurable ways. But it has also created a dangerous blind spot: the assumption that a hardened network can compensate for a soft perimeter.

It cannot. The fastest path to a compromised network is still a person walking through an unlocked door. Tailgated entries, unattended workstations, and unsupervised contractor access continue to be the root cause of breaches that bypass every layer of digital control.

The convergence of physical and cyber risk is no longer theoretical. A USB device plugged into a switch closet. A rogue access point installed in a maintenance room. A photograph of a credential reader taken during an after-hours sweep. Every one of these scenarios begins with physical access and ends in network compromise.

Treating the two domains as separate functions is what makes them exploitable. Physical access events should feed cyber detection. Network anomalies should trigger physical verification. Both should sit under a single risk owner with the authority to act across the boundary.

ETG works with clients to integrate physical access telemetry into their security operations center, so the same team that sees a failed login also sees the door event that preceded it. The pattern is what reveals the threat. Either signal alone is just noise.

A single physical breach can expose entire networks.
